Electrical conductivity by eddy current

Eddy current testing is a fast, non-destructive evaluation method for obtaining properties like sheet resistance, resistivity, and conductivity. It is an alternative to the traditional 4-point probe method and offers high accuracy without the influence of contact resistance.

An alternating current that flows through the test probe's coils generates a primary magnetic field. When this probe is placed near a conductive material, circular electrical currents are induced within the material, called eddy currents. The induced eddy currents generate an opposing secondary magnetic field, which alters the coil's electrical impedance. This shift in electrical impedance is detected by the instrument and converted into a conductivity value.

With the eddy current technique, it is possible to perform single-point measurements or high-resolution mapping across a wafer. Use the form below to ask our experts for more information or a quote for your project.
