Microplastics released from textiles

The test is used to quantify the microplastics released from textiles during laundering.

Microplastic particles are identified and counted using FTIR-ATR and SEM-EDX methods. The analysis is performed after the first and the last washing cycle, 10 washing cycles are used.

The results are given as mass loss (mg), mass loss (%), and microparticle loss per cleaning cycle index (MLC-index, mg/m2). The released particles are also identified.
