Capillary flow porometry
In capillary flow porometry (CFP), a liquid-filled sample is subjected to increasing gas pressure until the liquid is expelled from pores, allowing the size and distribution of through-pores (pores that connect one surface of the sample to the other) to be determined.
CFP is the appropriate technique when only through-pores are of interest, as opposed to blind or closed pores measured by mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) or gas adsorption. Typical reported parameters include the median and minimum pore diameter and the bubble point (the pressure at which gas first passes through the largest pore). Air and liquid permeability can be measured alongside the pore size distribution analysis.
