Dielectric breakdown voltage of insulating liquids
ASTM D877 is the standard test method for determining the dielectric breakdown voltage of insulating liquids. The method utilizes flat-faced disc electrodes separated by a 0.1-inch gap, over which an increasing AC voltage is applied at a uniform rate of 3000 volts per second to determine the dielectric breakdown threshold of insulating liquids.
This test method can be used to evaluate new, unused, or thoroughly filtered transformer oils and electrical insulating fluids.
