Pentachlorophenol (PCP) content in paper and board
Pentachlorophenol (PCP, CAS 87-86-5) is a pesticide and wood preservative classified as a persistent organic pollutant under the EU POPs Regulation and therefore banned in products and materials. It may, however, be present as a contaminant in articles that contain recycled fibers.
Tissue papers produced using recycled fibers must not contain PCP in concentrations above 0.15 mg/kg to be eligible for the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.
This analysis was originally developed for food contact materials, but it applies to all kinds of pulp, paper, and board.
