Allergens (ELISA) - lupin
Quantitative laboratory analysis of lupin protein in food and other applicable matrices, including feed, dietary supplements, cosmetics, and environmental samples. Testing is based on the ELISA method (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay).
Due to its allergenic properties, EU regulations mandate that the presence of lupin is indicated and emphasized in the list of ingredients when it is used in food products. This obligation is outlined in Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers.
If lupin is not used intentionally but may be found in food due to unintentional contamination, it is recommended to provide a voluntary disclaimer.
Several different ELISA kits are available for the analysis, and sample composition is considered when choosing the most appropriate kit to minimize the likelihood of cross-reactions.
