Vitamin A (retinol or beta-carotene) in food and dietary supplements
Determination of vitamin A in food as either retinol (EN 12823-1) or beta-carotene (EN 12823-2). The analysis can also be adapted for dietary supplements - please specify which approach you prefer when requesting an offer.
According to Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, the daily reference intake for vitamin A is 800 µg. Vitamin A content may be included in the nutrition declaration for food products if it is present in at least the following amounts:
120 µg/100 g or 100 ml in products other than beverages (15% of the reference intake)
60 µg/100 ml in beverages (7.5% of the reference intake)
120 µg per portion if the package contains a single portion (15% of the reference intake)
Foods and beverages that contain at least the above amounts of vitamin A can be labeled with the nutrition claim "Source of vitamin A." Permitted health claims applicable to products that are sources of vitamin A include the following:
"Vitamin A contributes to normal iron metabolism"
"Vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal skin"
"Vitamin A contributes to the maintenance of normal vision"
