Microbiological analysis of medical devices
Microbial cleanliness is an important factor in assessing the safety of medical devices, as the presence of microorganisms, such as bacteria, yeasts, and molds, can endanger the health of the user. At Measurlabs, we offer microbiological analyses of medical devices and healthcare products according to ISO 11737 standards. The following tests are available:
Both ISO 11737-1 and 11737-2 are harmonized standards listed in the Annex of Commission implementing decision (EU) 2021/1182. This means that devices that are compliant with the standards can be presumed to comply with the EU Medical Device Regulation (EU) 2017/745.
We also offer biocide efficacy testing for evaluating the effectiveness of antimicrobial treatments used to disinfect medical device materials. You can request more information and a quote for testing from our experts.
Microbiology testing of food and cosmetics
In food testing, microbiology analyses are used to screen products for bacteria like Salmonella, E.coli, and S. aureus, along with other microorganisms. In addition to contaminant analysis, microbiological tests are employed to determine the shelf life of food products.
Shelf life studies are based on monitoring the presence of microorganisms in the product at different stages of the estimated shelf life. The results help establish the use-by or best-before date, which can then be displayed on the packaging in accordance with EU food labeling requirements.
With regard to cosmetics, microbiological quality is one of the properties that need to be assessed to ensure the product's compliance with the EU Cosmetics Regulation.
Microbiological water quality analysis
Microbiology testing is a central part of ensuring the quality of drinking water. According to the new EU Drinking Water Directive, no E.coli or intestinal enterococci bacteria should be observed in water intended for human consumption. With regard to materials that come into contact with water, the propensity of the material to enhance microbial growth should be tested if the material contains organic ingredients.
We offer both stand-alone microbiological water quality analyses and testing packages that also contain the assessment of chemical and organoleptic properties. If you need testing for materials that come into contact with water, please contact us using the form at the bottom of this page.
