Chloroform-soluble extractives: paper and board (21 CFR 176.170)
Analytical service for determining the amount of net chloroform-soluble extractives from paper and board materials intended for food contact according to US FDA 21 CFR 176.170.
Depending on the intended use of the material, as defined in Table 1 and Table 2 of the regulation, testing is done with one or more of the following simulants:
Water
8% ethanol
50% ethanol
n-heptane
The applicable limit in all cases is 0.5 mg/inch^2 as chloroform-soluble extractives. If the amount of total extractives does not exceed this limit, the fraction soluble in chloroform does not need to be determined.
Testing can be performed under various conditions of use (A-H). The cost includes testing with the four above-mentioned simulants.
