Characteristic group analysis of oils (ASTM D2007)

Oil characteristic groups are determined with clay-gel adsorption chromatography by the ASTM D2007 standard method.

The quantities of saturated, aromatic, polar, and asphaltene/pre-asphaltene compounds are reported in mass percentages.

The sample needs to be soluble in n-pentane.
