Radiocarbon dating is an analytical technique for analyzing the age of biological and organic materials such as fossils and very old objects. Some carbon-containing inorganic samples can be analyzed as well.

The method is suitable for samples that are older than the 18th century.

Suitable sample matrices
Biological samples and all carbon-based organic sample matrices such as wood, paper, ceramics, and fabrics. Inorganic carbon-based minerals are also suitable.
