Radiocarbon dating
Radiocarbon dating is an analytical technique for analyzing the age of biological and organic materials such as fossils and very old objects. Some carbon-containing inorganic samples can be analyzed as well.
The method is suitable for samples that are older than the 18th century. Water samples should not contain any preservatives or be enriched with artificial C14, for example, from the nearby nuclear power plants.
