Measurlabs has entered into a partnership with Berlin-based sustainability label flustix to offer laboratory testing for the established Product Content Microplastic-Free certification. The certification allows manufacturers to validate and communicate the absence of intentionally added microplastics in their products, meeting both regulatory requirements and consumer expectations.
Meeting EU criteria for microplastic-free products
The flustix Product Content Microplastic-Free seal is based on the definition of microplastics set out by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in Regulation (EU) 2023/2055. The regulation prohibits the intentional addition of synthetic polymer microparticles to most consumer and professional products by adding them to the REACH Regulation as a restricted substance.
To qualify for the flustix seal, a product must not contain intentionally added solid, water-insoluble plastic particles, including bioplastics, with dimensions smaller than 5 mm.
Measurlabs provides accredited microplastic analyses with several advanced analytical techniques, such as py-GC/MS, µRaman, and µFTIR, to verify compliance with the above criteria. Testing is particularly relevant for liquid or water-soluble products, with examples including cosmetics, personal care products, detergents, cleaning agents, and food.
Once testing confirms the absence of microplastics, the results are submitted to flustix's certification partners – such as DIN CERTCO and TÜV Rheinland – for final independent conformity assessment. Products that pass the assessment are awarded the flustix seal, which can be used in marketing materials and packaging to communicate compliance and environmental responsibility to consumers.
A shared vision for sustainability
Collaboration on the certification reflects Measurlabs’ and flustix’s shared commitment to supporting more sustainable product development and helping companies respond to changing regulatory demands and consumer expectations.
“We’re excited to begin our collaboration with flustix, as it allows us to offer our customers not just testing services, but also a certification option that helps them communicate the results more effectively,” says Teemu Myllymäki, CEO and Co-founder of Measurlabs.
Malte Biss, CEO of flustix, adds, “With Measurlabs, we have been able to recognize an experienced and internationally positioned testing service provider that optimally complements our certification processes. This partnership enables us to meet the increasing demand for reliable microplastic testing and certification and thus offer manufacturers fast and efficient certification of their products.”
