Seaweed carbohydrate analysis
This analysis is used to determine the carbohydrate content of seaweed-based samples.
A solid sample is hydrolyzed, the acid-insoluble residue is filtered out, and monosaccharide components are analyzed using ion chromatography. Ash content is determined from the acid-insoluble residue.
The determined components are fucose, glucose, arabinose, xylose, galactose, mannose, rhamnose, mannitol, glucuronic acid, guluronic acid, and galacturonic acid.
The results are given as weight % value (oven dry basis).
